First infoletter - Anak Domba Bali

In the end of last year I went on a trip to Indonesia – Bali and Lombok. As usual I booked a return ticket quite spontaneously, packed my backpack and hit the road.

In order to get to know the country and the people, I moved to another place approx. every other day, rented a scooter every day and drove through the island. During one of those trips in the north of Bali I met an Indonesian couple and their little son "by coincidence". They invited me to their home and served me food. Only afterwards it became clear to me, that they are extremely poor.

Eny the wife and Wayan the husband both speak really good English, so that we had an interesting talk. Wayan is a protestant vicar and  leads a still small community in Singaraja. - Bali is characterised by Hindu religion–.

They told me about their plan to found an orphanage and at that time they already had two little boys taken under their care, which were living on the streets before. Both of them are incredibly warm-hearted and generous. They live by the little donations they receive from their community and do not know, what will be tomorrow. However, they deeply trust in God which gives them the confidence, that they will manage.

For the beginning an orphanage for approx. 10 children is envisaged,

which they intend to enlarge to house up to 100 children - if it is financially feasible. The children shall have a safe home and receive a sound education, so that they can stand on their own feet later.

Anyone who has ever been to Bali, has seen the grinding poverty in the villages.

Children are given away or sold, because they would starve to death otherwise. This encounter made me think a lot, so that I decided to support the construction of this house and the entire project as much as I can. Unfortunately, financially I cannot achieve much on my own. Therefore, it is my deep wish and intension to convince maybe a few people of the importance of the project.

The place can be visited any time to witness the progress. It will be my pleasure to provide the address. I am in close contact with Eny and Wayan – praise modern technology -.

In the meantime a business plan was prepared. Besides that we have photos and data of all the children already accomodated; without knowing how to manage financially.

For the house construction, beds and accessories, cooking gear, plates, cups, cloths, school material, food, medical treatment etc... in short the basic equipment for 10 children, approx. 4,500 € will be needed in the first year. That is the equivalen of 55,850,000 Indonesian Rupiah.

I am totally aware that we all have financial obligations we have to meet. Nevertheless, I try to support the project from Germany the best I can. Definitely, the task is too big for me alone and I need a lot of support.

It would be fantastic to find people who are willing to donate on a regular basis,

so that we can work on the basis of predictable and calculable funds. But also each single donation of any amount will support the project and hence the children.

In this letter I just want to inform about the issue which is so dear to me. Of course, it would be great, if support could be generated - no matter in which form! Also just forwarding the letter to friends and relatives is a first step!

It will be my pleasure to answer all your questions regarding the project. It goes without saying that the business plan, photos and further information on the children will be provided to all interested people. I wish all of you a happy and healthy year.

Best regards,
Angela Bendix

PS. Due to the high transfer costs it is better to collect the money on an account here in Germany. When a certain amount is credited to the account (approx. 500 €) I will transfer the amount in a single transaction. My objective is to establish a regular remittance cycle.
